Born in Texas. Completed grammar school, was married and working as an unskilled laborer at the time of his enlistment in the Army on June 10, 1943 at Lubbock, Texas. Joined the 10th Mountain Division while it engaged in mountain and winter warfare training at Camp Hale, Colorado. Assigned to the 605th Field Artillery, Battery B.
